Even tone. Clearer skin. Subtle, visible renewal.

(Courses available – 3 to 6 sessions recommended depending on skin concern and baseline.)

What is IPL Photorejuvenation?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses multiple wavelengths of filtered light to target excess pigment and redness just below the skin’s surface.
At Dr Hans Clinics, we use medically approved IPL systems designed for cosmetic tone correction – not medical disease treatment.
Energy is converted to gentle heat, helping the skin shed discoloured cells and refine surface texture with minimal downtime.

Who is it for?

IPL is suitable for people who:

● Notice uneven tone, mottled sun damage, or scattered pigmentation.

● Want smoother, clearer, more even-looking skin without lasers or injectables.

● Have fair-to-medium complexions (typically Fitzpatrick I – III).

● Prefer evidence-based, device-led treatments for photo-aged or dull skin.

It’s not advertised for medical conditions such as rosacea, acne, or vascular disorders – those should be managed by your GP or dermatologist.

We focus on cosmetic photorejuvenation and selective pigment and vascular appearance improvement.

Treatment Areas

● Full Face

● Neck & Décolletage

● Hands

● Shoulders

● Chest

Localised zones (e.g., single sun spots or small patches – see Localised Correction page)

What to Expect

During treatment : Brief light flashes with mild warmth or snapping sensation.

After treatment : Mild redness or darkening of pigmented spots for 24 – 48 h before they naturally flake off.

Downtime :Minimal – SPF and barrier protection mandatory.

Course : Typically 3 – 4 sessions, spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart.

Maintenance : Every 6 – 12 months if desired.

Combination Protocols

● We often combine IPL with Tixel® or PRF Biofiller for advanced texture and tone synergy – staged safely to minimise irritation.

● All combinations are clinician-led and based on evidence, not marketing bundles.

Safety & Aftercare

● Patch testing is required before first session.

● SPF 50+ daily and avoidance of active exfoliants / retinoids for 3 – 5 days post-treatment.

● Mild warmth or tingling is expected; avoid saunas, hot showers, and intense exercise for 24 hours.

● Temporary darkening of sunspots is normal.

● Avoid fake tan and self-tanners before each session.

What the Evidence Says

● Peer-reviewed studies show IPL can visibly improve the appearance of pigmentation, uneven tone, and photo-aged skin over multiple sessions, though results vary.

● Outcomes are most consistent for pigmentary and vascular appearance improvements, not structural collagen change.

● Results depend on baseline skin, device calibration, and adherence to aftercare.

Disclaimer

● Results vary and cannot be guaranteed.

● This information is educational and not a substitute for professional medical advice.

● Treatments are offered only after consultation and patch testing to ensure suitability.

FAQ

Is IPL the same as laser?

No. IPL emits broad-spectrum light (400 – 1200 nm) filtered to target pigment and vascular structures without ablation.

Lasers use a single wavelength and higher precision. IPL is gentler and typically has less downtime.

Usually 3 – 4 sessions spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart. Some patients choose 1 – 2 maintenance sessions yearly.

Caution is required on higher Fitzpatrick types (IV – VI) due to pigment interaction. We patch-test every patient and adjust parameters or suggest alternatives like Tixel® for safer options.
Yes, but staged – for example, Tixel® or chemical peels can be alternated between IPL sessions if skin recovery is complete.

You may notice improved clarity after 1 – 2 sessions; full results develop gradually as pigmented cells shed.

Most people describe quick, warm pulses – not painful, just momentary light snaps.

Minor redness, swelling, or temporary darkening of treated pigment are normal.

Rarely, superficial crusting or post-inflammatory pigment changes can occur; strict aftercare reduces risk.

Pregnancy, active infection, photosensitive medication, or recent tanning/self-tan are exclusions until reviewed.
