Dr. Mikail Merchant

Dr Mikail Merchant brings together international medical training, surgical discipline, and distinguished academic leadership to help set the benchmark for excellence in aesthetic medicine education.

As Co Founder of Dr Hans Clinics and Head of Education at the Dr Hans Academy, Dr Merchant leads the academic vision, safety culture, and clinical reasoning frameworks that shape every programme delivered through the academy. His work is dedicated to developing practitioners who combine technical skill with deep anatomical knowledge, ethical judgement, and patient centred decision making.

Academic Foundation and International Training

In the United Kingdom, Dr Merchant further formalised his expertise in professional education through advanced training in Education and Training awarded by the City & Guilds of London Art School. This qualification strengthened his leadership in curriculum design, learner development, and academic standards, forming a vital foundation for his role at the academy.

Having trained and gained exposure across three continents, namely Asia, North America, and Europe, Dr Merchant brings a broad global perspective and a consistently high professional standard to the educational environment he leads.

Leadership in Medical Education

Education is where Dr Merchant’s influence is most profound. Over the course of his career, he has taught and mentored a substantial and diverse body of learners across multiple stages of healthcare training, from Level 3 Health and Social Care students through to Level 7 medical students and junior doctors. This breadth enables him to build knowledge from first principles through to advanced clinical reasoning with clarity and authority.
His teaching approach is recognised for its structure, precision, and unwavering emphasis on safety. Rather than focusing solely on techniques, Dr Merchant trains practitioners to understand why a treatment is performed, when it should not be performed, and how to think critically in complex or uncertain situations. His aim is to cultivate practitioners who balance confidence with caution and skill with responsibility.

Dr Merchant began his medical career in India, where he completed his MBBS and gained extensive experience within hospital based and surgically focused clinical environments. He later advanced his training in General and Gastrointestinal Surgery in the United States, where he refined his understanding of procedural precision, structured operative planning, and disciplined clinical reasoning.

He went on to complete a Master of Science at Barts and The London School of Medicine, part of Queen Mary University of London, with an academic focus on minimally invasive surgery. This postgraduate training strengthened his command of surgical science and enhanced his ability to translate complex clinical principles into structured, high level education.

Ethics, Responsibility and Professional Values

Dr Merchant’s professional philosophy is grounded as firmly in ethics as it is in science. He holds certification in Bioethics and Human Rights from UNESCO, reflecting his commitment to patient dignity, informed consent, and responsible medical practice. He believes aesthetic medicine must always place human wellbeing above trends, and that true professionalism is defined by integrity as much as by expertise.

He promotes a culture where decisions are evidence led, communication is transparent, and practitioners are encouraged to develop sound professional judgement in every aspect of patient care.

Innovation and Academic Contribution

Alongside his educational leadership, Dr Merchant has contributed to several national and international medical publications. His professional development has included training with advanced technologies such as AI powered surgical simulation and exposure to robotic surgical platforms including the da Vinci system and the Medtronic Hugo system. This reflects his continued engagement with innovation and his commitment to advancing both medical training and procedural safety.
