About Body Radiofrequency Treatment

Changes in body skin are common with ageing, pregnancy and weight fluctuations. Over time the dermis gradually loses collagen density and elasticity, which can lead to skin laxity and changes in texture.

Many people notice this in areas such as the abdomen, thighs, arms or buttocks. While surgery can address more advanced skin laxity, many patients prefer to begin with non-surgical approaches aimed at improving skin quality.

One technology used at Dr Hans Clinics for this purpose is Neauvia Sectum radiofrequency therapy.

Sectum is a radiofrequency platform designed to deliver controlled thermal energy into the skin. The goal is to gently heat the dermis in order to support collagen structure and improve skin firmness over time.

The treatment is non-surgical and typically involves minimal recovery time.

What is Neauvia Sectum Body RF?

Neauvia Sectum is a radiofrequency system designed for several medical and aesthetic applications.

Radiofrequency energy is electrical energy that passes through tissue. As the energy encounters resistance within the skin it converts into heat. When this heat is delivered in a controlled manner, it can influence collagen fibres and support gradual tissue remodelling.

Sectum operates at approximately 480 kHz radiofrequency frequency with power output up to 120 W, allowing practitioners to adjust treatment parameters depending on the treatment area.

Unlike some technologies that remove layers of skin, radiofrequency treatments work primarily within the dermis. The epidermis remains intact, which is why recovery is usually minimal.

Body Radiofrequency

Bipolar radiofrequency technology

Body treatments with Sectum use bipolar radiofrequency energy.
In bipolar systems, electrical current travels between two electrodes located on the treatment applicator. The current path is relatively short, which concentrates energy within the dermal layers of the skin.
This allows practitioners to heat the dermis in a controlled way while limiting deeper energy penetration.
In aesthetic treatments this approach is commonly used for skin tightening rather than aggressive fat reduction.

How body radiofrequency treatments work

During treatment a conductive gel is applied to the skin and the applicator is moved continuously across the treatment area.
Radiofrequency energy generates controlled heating within the dermis. In body protocols the target temperature is typically higher than facial treatments.
Typical treatment parameters include:
Target temperature 40–42°C
Session duration 20–30 minutes per treatment area
Treatment course 6–8 sessions
Treatment interval approximately one week
The treatment area is generally divided into sections roughly the size of an A4 sheet to ensure even heat distribution.
Maintaining continuous movement of the applicator is important to avoid excessive heat in one location.

Treatment areas

Neauvia Sectum body treatments may be used to improve skin firmness in areas such as:
abdomen
buttocks
thighs
upper arms
These areas are often affected by gradual changes in collagen structure over time.
The goal of the treatment is to improve skin texture and support dermal firmness rather than dramatically reshape the body.

Conductive gel system

Neauvia Sectum body treatments use a dedicated conductive gel designed specifically for radiofrequency procedures.
The gel is an important part of the treatment protocol because it:
improves energy delivery into the skin
allows smooth movement of the applicator
reduces electrical resistance on the skin surface
These properties help distribute heat more evenly throughout the dermis.
Body gel ingredients
The Sectum body gel contains several ingredients used in body contour protocols:
caffeine
glaucine
soybean ferment extract
These ingredients are included to support the treatment environment while radiofrequency energy is delivered.

Does radiofrequency reduce fat?

Patients sometimes assume that radiofrequency treatments are designed primarily for fat reduction.
In reality, most body radiofrequency treatments focus on skin tightening and dermal stimulation.
Fat cells are damaged only when exposed to higher temperatures and longer exposure times than those typically used in skin tightening treatments.
Sectum body treatments usually maintain temperatures around 40–42°C, which are designed to stimulate collagen and improve skin firmness.
For this reason, the treatment should not be considered a weight-loss procedure.

Can radiofrequency improve cellulite?

Cellulite is influenced by several factors including:
connective tissue structure
fat distribution
skin thickness
Radiofrequency treatments may improve the appearance of cellulite in some patients by supporting dermal collagen and improving skin firmness.
However, cellulite is a complex condition and results vary between individuals.

Combination protocols

In aesthetic practice, body treatments are often combined with other therapies depending on the patient’s goals.
RF with collagen-stimulating treatments
Some patients benefit from treatments that stimulate collagen within the dermis while radiofrequency provides controlled thermal stimulation.

RF with regenerative therapies

Autologous treatments such as platelet-based therapies may be incorporated into body treatment plans depending on the concern being addressed.

RF with skin-quality treatments

In areas affected by stretch marks or skin thinning, additional treatments may be recommended to improve skin quality alongside radiofrequency stimulation.
Combination treatment plans are always tailored following consultation.

Safety in darker skin types

Radiofrequency energy does not rely on melanin absorption.
This means RF treatments are generally considered suitable for a wide range of skin types.
However, careful assessment is still required in patients with inflammatory skin conditions or pigmentation disorders.

Recovery

Body radiofrequency treatments generally involve minimal downtime.
Some patients experience temporary effects such as:
redness
mild swelling
warmth in the treated area
These effects usually resolve within several hours.
Normal daily activities can typically be resumed immediately.

Evidence and research

Radiofrequency technologies have been studied for their effects on skin tightening and dermal remodelling.
Examples of published research include:
Alster TS, Tanzi EL.
Non-ablative radiofrequency for skin tightening.
Dermatologic Surgery.
Fitzpatrick R et al.
Multicentre evaluation of radiofrequency treatment for skin laxity.
Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.
Elsaie ML.
Radiofrequency devices in dermatology.
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.
These studies suggest controlled dermal heating can influence collagen structure and improve skin laxity in selected patients.
Outcomes vary depending on individual characteristics and treatment parameters.

A Note on Transparency

PRF EZ Gel Biofiller is frequently marketed in ways that overstate what it does. Claims of long-lasting structural volume, permanent regeneration, or results comparable to dermal fillers aren’t supported by the current evidence. The published literature on plasma gel treatments is still relatively limited, and most studies are small and early in their design.

What we can say with reasonable confidence: PRF Biofiller improves subtle hollowing and early volume loss in suitable patients, delivers some regenerative stimulus through the PRF component, and does so without synthetic material. Results are real but modest, and maintenance is part of the treatment.

We think patients deserve to know that before they book. The consultation is where we work out whether this treatment makes sense for you, and if something else would work better, we’ll recommend that instead.

FAQ's

What is PRF EZ Gel?

PRF EZ Gel is an injectable treatment made from your own blood, plasma component. A small blood sample is taken, processed, and prepared into a soft gel-like material by heating and then cooling the plasma that can be used to support skin quality, soften fine lines, and improve mild hollowing or crepiness in selected areas. The Plasma contains albumin a protein, that when heated and cooled turns into a gel.

PRF EZ Gel is commonly used for under-eye hollows, crepey under-eye skin, fine lines, mild facial volume loss, neck lines, décolletage, hands, and general skin quality improvement. It is best suited for subtle, natural-looking improvement rather than dramatic reshaping.

No. Dermal filler is usually made from hyaluronic acid and is designed to create volume, contour, and structure. PRF EZ Gel is made from your own blood and works more gently. It may provide soft tissue support, but it is not a direct replacement for filler.

Before booking PRF EZ Gel for my under eyes, I had a lot of questions and concerns. Dr Hans took time to go through all of them properly and did not rush the consultation. She explained the treatment in a balanced way and set realistic expectations. The procedure itself was more comfortable than I imagined and the result looks very natural. My face looks more rested rather than noticeably treated, which was important to me.

I had a great experience with Dr. Hans. I wanted to do Ez gel under my eyes. She listened to my concerns and took her time to explain why it wouldn’t be suitable treatment for me. Instead we agreed to tighten my skin with Tixel - I had 3 sessions, very happy with the results.

Absolutely the most knowledgeable and kindest doctor I’ve met. I’ve had injectables and PRF and soon tixel with her. She makes you feel so comfortable and confident. She will also say no and not just try to sell which is so important. She truly wants to improve the life of others which isn’t the case throughout the aesthetic industry (a lot of people try to exploit insecurities) and I used to work in it so I know! Thank you so much
